Why Choose Us?

At MOT Mastery, we don’t just sell courses; we build careers. Becoming an MOT tester is one of the most stable and in-demand career paths in the UK automotive industry. However, the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) has strict criteria for who can test vehicles.

Unlike general mechanic work, MOT testing requires specific certification. Whether you are looking to test standard passenger cars (Class 4) or commercial goods vehicles (Class 7)

Understanding the Difference: Class 4 vs. Class 7 Training

Many technicians are unsure which course they need. We combine these into a comprehensive Level 2 Award in MOT Testing (Classes 4 & 7) to maximize your employability, but it is important to know the difference:

  • Class 4 (Standard): This covers cars (up to 8 passenger seats), motor caravans, taxis, and small vans with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) up to 3,000 kg. This is the standard “car MOT” license.

  • Class 7 (Commercial): This authorizes you to test goods vehicles (vans and trucks) with a GVW between 3,000 kg and 3,500 kg. This is essential for technicians working with commercial fleets, transits, and Sprinter vans.

By training for both, you become a more valuable asset to any garage or MOT station.

Mandatory Annual CPD and Assessments

Once you are qualified, the learning does not stop. To keep your tester status active, the DVSA requires you to complete Annual Training and an Assessment every year between April 1st and March 31st.

  • Requirement: You must complete at least 3 hours of training annually and pass the official assessment.

  • Suspension Risk: If you miss the March 31st deadline, your testing status will be suspended immediately, and you will not be able to test vehicles until you pass the assessment and potentially complete a demonstration test.

We offer the MOT Annual Assessment CPD package to ensure you never lose your testing license.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is MOT Mastery?

MOT Mastery is a specialist training platform offering expert-led courses for individuals who want to become MOT Testers, MOT Managers, or simply refresh their current MOT knowledge. Our goal is to help you build confidence, meet DVSA standards, and succeed in the MOT industry.

Who are the courses for?

Our courses are designed for:
• New entrants wanting to become MOT Testers
• Current testers looking to refresh or update their skills
• Aspiring MOT Managers or Test Station Owners
• Technicians preparing for DVSA-recognised qualifications

What qualifications do I need to become an MOT Tester?

To become an MOT Tester, you must:
• Hold a valid UK driving licence for the vehicle class you wish to test
• Have at least 4 years’ experience in the service and repair of vehicles
• Possess a Level 3 qualification in vehicle maintenance and repair
• Have good English reading and writing skills
• Be free from unspent criminal convictions related to the motor trade

What’s the difference between an MOT Tester and an MOT Manager?

An MOT Tester carries out vehicle inspections and ensures they meet road safety and environmental standards.
An MOT Manager oversees the operations of an MOT test station, ensuring compliance with DVSA regulations and managing the tester team and facility.

What courses do you offer?

We offer:
• MOT Tester Training (Class 4 & 7)
• MOT Manager Training (Level 3 Award in MOT Test Centre Management)
• Annual CPD & Refresher Training
• & more!

Is your training DVSA approved?

Yes. All our training is aligned with DVSA requirements, and we work with approved assessment centres to ensure your qualifications are recognised.

How long does it take to become a qualified MOT Tester?

Most candidates can complete the training in 2 to 5 days, depending on their experience and the course schedule. Following training, you’ll need to pass a DVSA demonstration test to become authorised.

How do I get started?

Simply contact us through the website, and one of our training advisors will guide you through the eligibility check, enrolment process, and course scheduling.

Do I need a Level 3 qualification to become an MOT tester?

Yes, you typically need a Level 3 qualification in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair. However, if you have the experience but no paperwork, you can take our VTAA (Vehicle Technician Accredited Assessment) course, which acts as a valid pre-entry qualification for the MOT course.

How long does the MOT Manager course take?

The Award in MOT Testing Centre Management is a Level 3 qualification that generally takes 2-3 days to complete. It covers the administrative and legal side of running a testing station, rather than the mechanical inspection itself.

Can I test motorcycles with a Class 4 & 7 license?

No. Motorcycles fall under Class 1 and 2. You would need to take a separate training course specifically for Group A vehicles (motorcycles) to test them.

What happens if I fail my MOT demonstration test?

If you fail the demonstration test with the DVSA examiner, you will need to undergo further training and re-book the test. Our courses are designed with high pass rates in mind to ensure you are fully prepared for this final step.
